Toto SS114#01 Traditional SoftClose Elongated Toilet Seat, Cotton Whitegot the 2 most popular Toto plastic seats, plus tried about 7 from Lowes and home depot. The SS154-01 Traditional seat is 1.5" high, not including the top (2.5" w/ top). The SS114-01 Transitional is about 7/8" high (2" w/ top). They seam to work like any other soft closing lids in form of quietness while being closed.
I do like a favorite plastic 'Church toilet seat' sold at Lowes (model # 1720SLOW000) (has 36 reviews @ 4.40 stars total) for having the least amount of creaking noise when moving the seat from side-to-side in tests performed. The only negative is that the white is a hair not as brilliant-white as a toto toilet/ toilet seat (I have Drake II models). But, I've seen some last more than 5 years, so I know they are built well. Also, there is a plastic Bemis (model # 1584SLOWJ000) from Home Depot for $34.98 that has been out since Jan 2013 that has high reviews, and I have one in a bathroom (it has more opening space than the Church from Lowes, and sits more straight).
I give the SS154-01 FOUR stars versus the SS114-01 FOUR & A HALF stars and the Church seat from Lowes or Bemis from Home Depot FIVE stars. 4 stars for the SS154-01 Traditional, because of the way the seat Heavily curves into the toilet bowl (seat is highly concaved, not flat). I wish Amazon would let me download a picture of the two side-by-side for you. There is a big difference. It seams like my rear end wants to stay suspended on the higher outer part on the SS154-01, which feels a tad uncomfortable (like your not sitting all the way on the seat). This review goes against the total star ratings listed on Amazon by all reviewers, whom rated the SS154-01 higher (perhaps they did not test the two units for a week)
