I bought three of these in September 2006, shortly after buying our home. One for the master bathroom, one for the kids bathroom, & one for the guest bathroom. About 6 months ago I noticed that the one in the master bathroom was not slow closing but banging shut. I hate working on toilets, so I let it slide until the irritation got to me. I checked the other two & the one in the kids bathroom was also into fast closing. The guest bathroom gets little use & it was still working like it did 7 years ago. The plastic moldings were slightly different and the diameter of the metal shaft on the old ones was much smaller, so perhaps the nice people at TOTO made a few running changes to extend their life. One can only hope...

5/22/2013 addition: I originally wrote this because my families life experience was far longer than other reviewers. A nice lady couldn't understand why I gave them 5 stars when they only lasted 6 years, so I'll write some more.

Five years ago, I purchased a TOTO Drake toilet with a soft close seat. We've been very pleased with both the toilet and especially the seat. The soft close feature is really nice, although sometimes I forget that not all toilets have soft close seats. While we never slam our toilet seat at home, sometimes we do elsewhere.
